Abdul Latheef is a photography enthusiast,
best known for his award-winning image, "The
Monsoon," left, taken on a point-and-shoot
camera.

His prize included an invitation to the World
Press Photo awards ceremony in Amsterdam in
1997.

Born in Kerala, India, Latheef is a journalism graduate. He began his career in 1981 as a Copy Editor
at Gulf News in Dubai, UAE.

In 1988, he joined Dubai Television where he produced news shows for more than 13 years.

Latheef also worked for the Associated Press as a Reporter, before moving to Canada in 2001.

He has since held senior editorial roles at the Canadian Press, China Daily, Today's Trucking and OPIS, 
A Dow Jones Company.
